Count on F.P. Journe to make a quartz movement undeniably cool. Termed an "electromechanical" movement by the brand, the Élégante contains a mechanical motion detector. This is what's visible on the dial at 4 o'clock. When the Élégante remains motionless for 35 minutes, it goes into a standby mode where the mechanical parts of the watch, such as the hands, stop. However, a microprocessor within the movement continues to keep time and as soon as motion is detected again, the hands move back to the correct time. This preserves energy and puts a specifically "Journe" experience on what could otherwise be a standard quartz watch. The tonneau case shape, use of titanium or titalyt for the material, and rubber strap make this an incredibly easy watch to wear and also incredibly difficult to find. With factory diamonds, this variant is particularly elegant.
