Reference 16528 and its steel counterpart, reference 16520, were introduced in 1988 as the modern era of the Daytona began. The reason we can pinpoint this as the start of the modern Daytona is the introduction of the automatic movement within the series and for these references, that meant caliber 4030. Produced by Zenith, these models are highly sought after today due to these movements that are based on the original automatic chronograph caliber, the El Primero.
Further, within the 16528 production, there were variations with the dials and bezels that are referred to by Mark 1, Mark 2, and so on. Early dials, up to Mark 3 and corresponding to as late as 1995, feature an inverted 6. This is the 6 found in the sub-register on the dial at 6 o'clock that is oriented upside down.
These small variations have a big impact on the collectability within the 16528 production.
