The Story

Released alongside the standard reference 116400 in 2007, Rolex also introduced the reference 116400GV in celebration of the anti-magnetic model’s 50th anniversary. Furthering the already playful aesthetic of the lightning bolt hand fitted model, an extra application of color was incorporated into this reference in the form of a green tinted crystal, or “Glace Verte” as it’s known. Casting a hue of the brand’s signature color over the professional timepiece’s matte black dial, Rolex is said to have not patented the green crystal’s production process, due to just how extremely difficult it was for even themselves to produce.
